Marseille manager Lucien Favre has confirmed that he will be staying at the club for another season, with his contract set to run until June 2024. The Frenchman, who took over as manager in February 2021, has overseen a remarkable turnaround in fortunes at Stade de France, guiding the team to their first-ever Ligue 1 title last season.
Favre's arrival coincided with a period of rebuilding and reformation at the club, with new signings such as Diego Costa, Romain Alessandrini and Jean-Kévin Augustin helping to transform the squad. The team finished the season in second place, just one point behind league champions Paris Saint-Germain, and have been widely tipped to challenge for the top spot this term.
In an interview with Canal+ Sport, Favre expressed his delight at being able to continue working with the players he has come to know and love during his time at the club. "It's an honour to be here," he said. "I've had a great experience with this group of players and I'm looking forward to continuing to work with them."
The former Basel and Borussia Dortmund coach also acknowledged the challenges ahead, but was confident that his team could rise to the occasion. "We're going to face some difficult games, but we're up for it," he said. "We'll do everything we can to win every game and try to get back into the Champions League places."
Despite the pressure of competing against PSG, Favre is determined to make Marseille a force to be reckoned with once again. "Our goal is to finish in the top four or five," he said. "That's what we want to achieve, and we're going to fight hard to make it happen."
Overall, it seems that Lucien Favre is well on track to cement his legacy at Marseille, and there's no doubt that the team under his leadership will be a force to be reckoned with in the coming seasons.
