Monaco has secured their second-place finish in the Ligue 1 table and a place in the UEFA Champions League for next season after defeating Lens 2-0 on Sunday.
The victory was a well-deserved reward for Monaco's impressive form throughout the campaign, which saw them finish just one point behind Paris Saint-Germain in second place. The win also means that Monaco will be able to secure their place in Europe's top club competition, as they have already qualified for the Europa League this season.
The match against Lens was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating plenty of chances but failing to find the back of the net until the 75th minute when Benjamin Mendy scored his first goal of the season from close range. However, Lens could not find the equaliser and were eventually beaten by a late goal from Anthony Modeste.
Monaco manager Vahid Halilhodžić praised his team's performance, saying: "We knew it would be difficult to get the result we wanted, but I am proud of my players for their commitment and determination."
With the win, Monaco now have a chance to make a strong start to the new season, as they begin their campaign against Rennes at the Stade Louis II on August 14. The French champions will hope to build on their impressive run of form under Halilhodžić and secure another successful campaign in Ligue 1.
